HÉLÈNE LHOTE LIVES AND WORKS IN PARIS / FRANCE

The confrontation of opposites, always with the temptation tocreconcile them, is the heart of Hélène Lhote’s artistic research. She composes her installations according to the interior or exterior spaces entrusted to her. Algeria, Morocco and Iran - the countries of her childhood - strongly imbued her imagination. Returning to France as a teenager, she discovered other landscapes, sensations and lights, but above all, another culture. chis diversity has deeply innervated her work. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in painting, she was always interested in the materials and forms of ornamental art (light like mirrored wallpaper, the curves of calligraphy, grids, moucharabiehs...), she progressively oriented towards sculpture and bewilders us with the diversity of her production, one focused on mobility and the idiosyncrasy of perception. Her work is the subject of numerous installations in exceptional and very different places: colleges, gardens, parks or public buildings.

Inscribing her works in contemporary or historical architectural spaces, Hélène Lhote interposes her objects between light and the viewer, thus provoking original, unusual stimuli in them, capable of awakening the acuity of our senses. Since 1985, she has multiplied the experiences of collaboration and partnerships with galleries, cultural institutions and businesses. She creates and responds to private or public commissions in a language specific to materials such as enamel on steel, metal, mirror, stained glass - to which light is added, depending on the work.

At the same time, since 2002, Hélène Lhote has created, under the generic appellation : L.N.2.3, a mirror stamp which she pursuescin an urban fashion. The shards, luminous cut-out mirrors punctuate the cadence of the city and the established rhythms; they bear witness to a passage, an affection, the recognition of a place or a presence. Reminiscences of the Persian culture that is familiar to her, these mirrors are the strong sign of a world that cannot be forgotten.
